NAME: Tommy Monaghan
CANON: DC universe, Hitman comic
POINT IN CANON: As he is bleeding out at the end of issue 60
AGE: 28
APPEARANCE: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/4/48/Hitman_0008.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120511233028

CANON HISTORY: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Thomas_Monaghan_(New_Earth)

CANON PERSONALITY: Tommy is a simple sort, not simple stupid, but simple easy to read. He grew up with his friends. At first his buddy Sean who he read comics with from the roof tops of the Cauldron and later his assassin friends. The whole series could in fact be a study of how a group of idiots who killed for money banded together and ended up keeping each other from being horrible people. Tommy didn’t have family growing up so he adopted his friends as such and would kill for them, or later die for them. Any bozo could go out and whack someone, but if you had friends that kept you human you could at least laugh about it. If Tommy considers someone a friend, there is very little he won’t do to the point of charging an army with only 3 bullets and several holes in him.
Tommy also has an odd moral compass. He has no problem putting many many holes in someone for $5000, but he won’t off someone he considers a good guy. Cops, heroes, the freaking Batman, sure he’ll throw up on their shoes and make their lives miserable, but he won’t kill them. Batman beat the hell out of him and sure he’ll be sarcastic to him, and after a hit to the guy puke on him, but he never had the thought of killing him. Gotham has several dirty cops, in fact many of them play poker with Tommy and will let him off when he’s turned in, but unless they are threatening an innocent he is protecting he won’t do much other than bamboozle them. This comes from a belief that life is cheap, short, and stupid; something that yearly comic events that have the world on the verge of destruction have enforced in Tommy’s life; but Tommy knows that some people actually have noble goals unlike his, and it isn’t really right to involve them in the affairs of small urban warlords.
Tommy isn’t a super hero though, and has very little respect for them. Part of him likes to prove that he’s better than them through petty tricks and nonsense. Either be it from exposing that the Green Lantern doesn’t carry a wallet and getting an entire bar to nickname him “The Green Tightwad,” pinching The Demon Etrigan’s cheek in a “Aren’t you so cute way” after a caper when there is no chance of retribution, or using Section 8 to black mail Lobo with a sham wedding tape; Tommy believes that the common man really should be the one on top. The only exception to this is Superman, who he sees as having adopted the American dream of becoming one of the people, Supes is all right in his book. It is this thought that keeps him from using his powers unless he has to, the thought that having powers shouldn’t define someone and as he told The Flash, “I could practice using them, but there’s always something good on TV.”

POINT OF DEPARTURE: n/a
VETERAN?: No
ABILITIES:
Telepathy: Tommy is not a good telepath, but can with some effort read surface thoughts of people. Also he has gotten used to the power enough to use it as a danger sense to feel when people are preparing to attack him. Use of these powers results in terrible migranes for anything but the most basic things (someone trying to kill him, or what kind of food someone likes when he has asked them out to dinner)
X-Ray Vision: Tommy has X-Ray vision that he can control to a layer, he can see through buildings, but at that level people are reduced to skeletons. He also cannot see through lead, and if a psychic is powerful enough they can turn off this power.
Marine Training: Tommy was a marine, and was trained in firearms, hand to hand combat, and explosives there.

INVENTORY: Two Berretta M9 Pistols (Custom configured so one has a 12 round clip, the other a 13 in case some screwball is counting shots), a lighter, pack of cigarettes, sunglasses, green and black trench coat, normal clothes, ace of killers rifle (Enchanted double barreled shotgun that can harm demons) and a belt of ammunition for said rifle

JUSTIFICATION:
Death: Tommy’s life is one of change, he lost his mother shortly after birth, he washed out of the marines, his best friend was killed, one by one his friends and father figure were killed, he killed his own father. He transitioned from human to metahuman, in fact being pretty much the longest lived one of the bloodlines heroes. In the end he said goodbye to life to save his friend.
Hanged Man: Tommy doesn’t see himself as a hero, he is hedonistic, selfish, and violent. That being said his actions are always ones the benefit more people than they hurt, or simply hurt bad people. He accepts that he is a bad person, but can’t help believing that the world can be a better place and sometimes needs a kick in the pants to get there. He shows moral courage, but hides his morals and in the end died trying to protect an innocent woman and her newborn from a shadowy government conspiracy.
The Tower: Tommy’s life at the best is a train wreck that is on fire as it plows off a cliff. Sometimes he can hop off that train with the money, sometimes, it crashes and takes out things important to him. He sees that he is no hero or no role model, and most of his life has been moving from one failure to another. He even failed his one true goal of getting out of Gotham and moving to New York.

PROSE SAMPLE:
Cards, cards were easy, this undercover stuff, not so much. Tommy never liked hiding who he was, people wear too damn many masks as it is, never understood why people couldn’t just be the people they were. Sure a lot of them were terrible, but if everyone knew that right up front then everyone could deal with it, or at least know who was going to be cheating at cards the most. Ah well, it was as good a way to kill time while keeping an eye on this place as any.

Still, looking out at a bar, some sort of thing was supposed to be here, if Tommy had bothered to listen to all the details he’d probably have been better off but the whole thing seemed odd to him, at least there were no vampires, dinosaurs, or guys running around in spandex to make things difficult. This was no bar from his dream but it was better than being dead, still even in this crowd he felt alone. Maybe if these people spent some time as themselves he could find some new mates, because this craziness was worse than Gotham. Still, cards, it was a thing to focus on.

Hand after hand, it isn’t even worth cheating, or thinking. Some win, some loose Tommy wondered what today would be. Still, it was as good a way to keep an eye out for someone trying something crazy as any. Maybe something crazy would liven up this guard duty, cause that’s about all it boiled down to it seemed.
